This position is a member of the Athletic Department s sports medicine team. Responsibilities include coordination of student-athlete mental health services, assess the unique mental health needs of student-athletes, and develop innovative services and programming to meet these needs. This position will provide mental health education and programming to student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff. This position builds effective, collaborative relationships throughout the Athletic Department and the Gonzaga University community. Essential Functions: Coordination of Clinical Care

• Consult and coordinate with healthcare and athletic professionals (coaches, athletic trainers, team physicians, support staff, and administrators) for an integrated approach to student-athlete wellness, in accordance with HIPPA/FERPA.
• Triage, coordinate, and track referrals to mental health services including psychotherapy, medication management, neuropsychological testing, substance abuse treatment, etc.
• Serves as initial point of referral for all mental health services for student-athletes.
• Provide crisis assessment and intervention including assessment for safety.
• Follow up with and track student-athletes in distress to monitor progress and ensure compliance with recommendations.
• Provide clinical services for a small case load (5-8 student-athletes) for short-term individual counseling. (Will not provide long-term psychological counseling)
• Monitor provider volumes, level loading case-loads, and matching the needs to individual student-athletes with the availability and expertise of providers. Services Management and Training/Education
  • Develop and maintain a database of mental health and wellness resources available to student-athletes on campus and in the Spokane community.
  • Serve as a liaison between athletics and campus partners, including attending any meetings and/or trainings.
  • Coordinate, track and provide education and training to student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff regarding student-athlete mental health. Administrative Duties
    • Data architecture and tracking generate reporting related to categories outlined above, including but not limited to utilization rates, offerings and attendance, provider volumes, student-athlete mental health assessments and trends.
    • Regular on-going assessment of programming, services, providers, and education.
    • Complete documentation and maintain records of student-athlete cases.
    • Lead weekly student-athlete health and wellness meeting with athletic support staff. NCAA Compliance Employees of Gonzaga University s Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledge this compliance as part of an evaluation process. Other Functions
      • Assists other members of the Athletic department during peak periods and with special workload projects
      • Incumbent may represent the department on University-wide committees or projects as assigned and approved by the supervisor.
      • Other duties as assigned by the department
