Position Title Director, Payne Center for Leadership Development Department Student Involvement & Leadership Classification Exempt Job Summary The Payne Center for Leadership Development engages and supports all students seeking to develop their leadership potential and inspire positive change on campus and in their local and global communities. Our programs, services and resources offer students a deeper understanding of leadership in the Jesuit context and Social Change Model of knowing self, building community, and impacting our world. The Director for the Payne Center for Leadership Development provides overall leadership and administration for the Payne Center for Leadership Development (PCLD) including staff supervision, budget management, and the development and assessment of co-curricular programs/services designed to advance student success through engagement. Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Students in the Student Development division, the Director of PCLD is responsible for the administration of major undergraduate program areas including Community of Leaders, The Coughlin Learns to Lead Floor, lectures and events, educational programs, leadership programs, and operation of the center. This position works collaboratively with a wide variety of administrative and academic departments across the University community to promote programs which complement the students' academic experience. The director will also maintain a strong partnership with the donor for the center. This position requires vision, energy, flexibility, the ability to work nights and weekends, and a commitment to ethical and moral leadership development of students and diversity. The ideal candidate is a passionate, energetic, and self-motivated team player with sound judgment, management and problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple projects. Demonstrate knowledge and thorough understanding of student academic and social development; leadership theory; student engagement and learning strategies. Work Schedule mostly 8-5, some evenings and weekends Hours per Week 40 Months per Year 12 Employment Status Regular Temporary or Fixed-Term Assignment End Date Total Rewards Depends on Experience Essential Functions Staff Management: The director shall supervise 1-3 (hire, manage and develop) professional staff and up to 4 student staff Strategic Planning and Vision: The Director shall be responsible for directing, creating, implementing, managing and assessing a long-term vision for growth and development of the PCLD. Event Design and Management: The Director shall be responsible for managing, developing and implementing an inclusive programming calendar for students throughout the academic year. Programs are designed to support the areas of the Social Change Model, Gonzaga University Mission and Ignation Values. Instructing, Presenting and Public Speaking: The Director shall be responsible for designing programs and presenting programs for a wide variety of people. Advising: The Director may be called upon to advise student organizations or groups on campus. Budget Management: The Director shall be responsible for all budgeting decisions, oversight and purchasing for the Center. Independent Decision Making: The director is responsible for assessing risks, costs and benefits and making independent decisions Living Learning Community: In collaboration with Residence Life, the Director will oversee the strategy and implementation of the Learns to Leads Living Learning Community. Leadership Expert: The Director Shall serve as a key face of the organization, representing the Payne Center for Leadership Development in public forums, serving as a thought leader on issues relating to leadership and innovation. Marketing and Promotion: Create effective marketing for all programs on all advertising mediums (social media and college websites). Donor Relations and Grant Management: The Director shall maintain, support and foster donor relations with principle donor, including semi-annual reporting, meetings and presentations University Collaboration and Team Work: * The Director shall exercise collaborative leadership within the PCLD to ensure the productivity of program project teams and provide expertise to meet desired student leadership learning outcomes. * Actively participate in Student Affairs and University committees. Foster close working relationships across the Division of Student Affairs, with colleagues in academic departments, and with community organizations. * The Director will serve as a liaison to the School of Leadership Studies * The Director shall engage and serve as a team member in the SIL department, attend all required departmental, divisional and university meetings and trainings. * Other duties as assigned.
