Providence is calling a Administrative Nursing Supervisor - House
Supervisor (Nursing Administration, Variable-shift, 0.9 FTE) to
Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Chewelah, Washington. We are a
community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to
provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially
those who are poor and vulnerable. In this position you will:
- Maintain competency in for supervised areas:
- Maintain clinical competencies of the Registered Nurse -
Emergency Department
- Collaborate with Managers to coordinate nursing and hospital
activities on assigned shift to assure optimal patient care.
Applies "system thinking" to identify and develop solutions to
problems:
- Understand and considers the patient care system and its
interrelationships, interdependencies, and total organizational
perspective to solve problems, facilitate cooperation, and define
and communicate the administrative supervisor role
- Strong verbal and written communications skills including the
ability to discuss difficult and uncomfortable topics
- Ability to understand, be receptive, and respond to change;
alter processes and procedures to optimize quality care; and
communicates this in action and word
- Round for Outcomes with all patients every shift
- Round for Outcomes with assigned staff (Nursing Services
Manager will make staff rounding assignments.)
- Promote positive morale through role-modeling and effective
listening
- Assure appropriate staffing on assigned shift and assures
appropriate staffing arranged for next 24 hours:
- Make staffing adjustments looking ahead for next 24 hours
- Schedule breaks and lunches; covers patient load during breaks
and lunches in absence of other resources
- Complete Coordinated Care in absence of Coordinated Care staff
(severity of illness, intensity of service according to Interqual
criteria)
- Call Surgery crew in for non-emergent add-on cases (2 hours in
advance of case start time)
- Manage patient through-put for maximum efficiency and patient
census (without compromising quality and safety expectations)
- Act as in house administrator for assigned shift:
- Initiate Emergency Preparedness Plan in absence of
Administrator
- Communicate appropriate information to Administrator On Call
(patient care issues, safety and security, physician concerns,
media inquires)
- Communicate promptly with the Manager/Director/Risk
Manager/Assistant Administrator - Patient Services any untoward
patient care/risk issues within the organization
- Act as resource to all hospital departments to ensure safety
and risk management standards are met
- Interpret and enforces hospital policy and procedure
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing
and patient care services
- Ability to understand, be receptive, and respond to change;
alter processes and procedures to optimize quality patient care;
and communicates this in action and word
- Demonstrate technical/clinical expertise in the field of
nursing and skill in critical thinking analysis, prioritizing, time
management, and organization
- In collaboration with Nurse Manager, assures adherence to
established standards and procedures in the nursing unit:
- Knowledge of clinical pathways and other protocols and
guidelines
- Distribute and utilizes available resources to provide safe
patient care based upon hospital wide assessment of activities and
to maintain quality and cost-effectiveness
- Respond promptly to and participates in emergency situation
(i.e. Emergency Codes, Rapid Response Team)
- Demonstrate skill in patient placement on assigned shift
- Contributions to new hire and annual evaluations are completed
in a timely manner and percent of completion rate is not less than
95%:
- Utilize the 30 and 90 day evaluation tools for new hires
- Utilize the customer feedback tools for annual evaluations
- May complete other evaluations as assigned
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to assure
quality patient care delivery:
- Demonstrate strong collaboration, leadership, and team skills,
including the ability to work well with physicians, all disciplines
and staff levels Required qualifications for this position
includes:
- Washington State Licensure as a Registered Nurse
- Current ACLS w/ BLS, TNCC, PALS, NRP Preferred qualifications
for this position includes:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Master's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- 5 years of Acute Care hospital experience, including at least
one year of ED experience
- 1 year of supervisory experience
- Critical Care experience About the hospital you will serve.
