We're looking for a Child Protective Services Specialist to join our team to help build DCYF, working toward our vision that 'All Washington's children and youth grow up safe and healthy-thriving physically, emotionally, and educationally, nurtured by family and community.' The Opportunity: Social Service Specialist 3 - In training DCYF is currently seeking proactive learners and resilient contributors to join our Children Protective Services (CPS) office in our Spokane North office. Performs advanced-level work in the investigation of child abuse and neglect allegations and specialized case management in the CPS unit. This position investigates allegations, assesses complex family situations, develops plans to protect children either in their own homes or in out of home care through the intervention of the court system, and makes findings of abuse or neglect based on the results of the investigation. In performing all duties, the CPS Investigations Social Service Specialist focuses on understanding and respecting the strengths of the clients including their heritage, cultural beliefs and values, communication and learning styles. This position has the potential for high-stress levels, as you are responsible for protecting children from risk and harm whenever indicated with little supervision. The CPS Social Service Specialist is responsible for meeting all casework management directives as required by law, policy and other mandates, including but not limited to: Meeting timeframes for: Child/family health and safety visits, Sibling visits and Meet documentation and payment initiation requirements for accurate and timely entries into FamLink Here is some of what you'll do: Provide comprehensive and on-going assessment of casework needs for child, and foster parent(s)/guardian. Perform advanced-level work in the investigation of child abuse and neglect allegations and specialized case management. Investigate allegations, assess complex family situations, and develop plans to protect children either in their own homes or out of home care through the intervention of the court system. Make findings of abuse or neglect based on the results of the investigation. Assess the need for out-of-home placement, and work with the family to find the strongest placement to nurture the child's cultural and family ties. Monitor the health and safety of the child by regular visitation in the placement facility and other settings re-assessing the needs and ensuring continued safety and well-being of the child Assess the parent's commitment and potential for significant behavioral changes necessary to meet the needs of the children and to correct parental deficiencies. Work independently in devising your work methods to provide an advanced level of specialized, culturally competent, and solution-focused case management. Refers clients for psychological, psychiatric and/or medical evaluations and treatment with other community resources, and monitory progress and effectiveness of care. Prepare and presents written and oral testimony for court proceedings. Identify and develop community supports and resources. Take itional action when needed to meet the needs of child safety, permanency, and well-being. Implement culturally relevant ADA-sensitive, and individualized service plans with clients which are goal-directed. The goal class for this position is a Social Service Specialist 3. We are willing to consider candidates at the Social Service Specialist 2 level, with a training plan to advance to a Social Service Specialist 3. Experience is the only difference between qualifications for both levels and will be evaluated by the hiring manager. Required Qualifications for the Social Service Specialist 3 level: Professionals with one year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2 OR Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, and three years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2. OR Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field and two years of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2. A practicum will be substituted for the one year of paid social service experience Required Qualifications for the Social Service Specialist 2 level: Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, and two years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2. OR Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field and one year of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2. A practicum will be substituted for one year of paid social service experience. NOTE: Degrees must be obtained from an accredited institution. Your professional experience must include one year (1) paid social service experience assessing risk and safety to children and providing family-centered practice services (strengthening and preserving family units). In ition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following core competencies: Ability to effectively communicate and comprehend with management, peers, clients, community colleagues and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position. Current working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and policies on the delivery of child protective and child welfare services within Washington State and deliver services accordingly. Ability to partner effectively with other professionals involved in the preparation of child and family prospective permanency families for transition and permanency outcome. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with the child's caregiver (foster parents, relatives, kin or facility staff). Include caregivers in the care planning process and provide support for meeting the child's unique needs. Ability to implement risk assessment in all cases as defined by law and best practice using the agency preferred risk assessment model. Ability to utilize various (MS Office Word and other DCFS software) computer programs to document all services provided to clients. Ability to use and knowledge of FAMLINK standards and requirements. Ability to complete work promptly, following established policy and procedures regarding timeline for Emergent and Non-emergent referrals. How do I?
