There currently exists a full time (35 hours per week) opening for a Housing Outreach Staff position at the Women s Hearth. This position is open to all qualified Transitions employees as well as outside applicants. This position requires working on Saturday and Sunday. Position Title: Housing Outreach Specialist Status Hourly, Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt Benefits: Based on Transitions employment policies: Health, Vision, Life, Disability Grade Salary: $14.00 per hour Hours: 35 hours a week, Saturday and Sunday required Reports to: Program Director, Women s Hearth I. Primary Responsibilities Specific to Housing Outreach Staff: 1. Provide outreach services to new and returning visitors/program participants to the Women s Hearth: Warmly greet program participants and new visitors and assist them with in-take and sign-in forms. Be present on the floor throughout the day. While maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, make connections and build trust with individuals to assess needs and provide referrals to emergency services such as shelters (including domestic violence and family shelters), detox, and mental health stabilization. Build a sense of community among program participants through one on one conversations, facilitating or cofacilitating recreational and community-building activities and assist with other large group activities. As appropriate, engage program participants in conversation regarding their housing status and goals for permanent housing. Share information with Housing Support staff members to further participants housing goals. Answer phones and provide information, referrals and directions to other community service providers over the telephone and in person. Sign in participants for showers and respite room, distribute hygiene items, help participants with emergency clothing needs, emergency blankets etc. from the store room. Open the hygiene closet at assigned times and distribute supplies. Assist with preparing and/or serving occasional snacks and meals. Keep the hygiene closet stocked and organized. Assist Daily Operations staff in keeping outreach donations and supplies organized and hygiene closet stocked. 2. Provide administrative support for outreach services: In collaboration with Women s Hearth staff, periodically review resource referral guides for accuracy, make corrections as needed and communicate changes. Maintain sufficient copies of various resource sheets in desk binders and staff room folders. Maintain outreach bulletin boards with current fliers, notices and announcements and tidy appearance. Maintain outreach brochure caddy with current bus schedules and brochures from area resources. Assist Housing Support Specialist staff with data entry and filing tasks as needed. II. Primary Responsibilities Shared by all Transitions and Women s Hearth Staff Members: All staff members share leadership and responsibility for the running of the program at the Women s Hearth in the following areas: 1. Ensure consistent and uniform dissemination of Transitions Core Values through the areas of responsibility: Embody values by fostering honest, open, collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers, interns and all who participate in Women s Hearth program. 2. Develop and plan programs which further the Mission and Values of the Women s Hearth and Transitions: Rotate planning reflection and taking minutes for the weekly staff meetings Participate in short term and long range strategic planning for the Women s Hearth Assume responsibility for tracking and reporting of data 3. Maintain a safe environment for program participants: Provide a welcoming and non-judgmental acceptance of all women who come to the Hearth Intervene in crises when necessary Maintain the Women s Hearth as a safe place that is alcohol and drug free 4. Build relationships and community among the women of the Hearth Spend time on the floor talking informally with women encouraging healthy relationships Share in responsibility for community events 5. Facilitate various support and life skills groups: Facilitate or co-facilitate recreational, support, or life-skills training groups, depending on need and area of expertise 6. Attend to the daily operation of the Women s Hearth: Help maintain a clean environment Help with daily setup and clean up 7. Provide referrals for housing, mental health, crisis intervention Be familiar with various agencies and services in the area Make appropriate referrals for women with specific needs Keep adequate record of referrals 8. Within the context of the stated primary job duties, and consistent with Transitions fundraising and marketing efforts, serve as ambassador and positive representative of Transitions mission, values and programmatic efforts. Respond to requests for speakers for various community groups Offer tours to guests and explain mission, values and programs Background and Performance Requirements: A. Education Required: High School Diploma and some college in areas of study such as Social Work, Human Services or related field. Significant experience with direct service in comparable human services organization may be substituted for post-high school education. B. Experience Preferred: Providing information and referral to community services Reception and customer service Inventory organization Operation of photo-copy equipment C. Competencies and Skills Preferred: Ability to work with and communicate with diverse populations including individuals in crisis Ability to prioritize workload and problem-solve Familiarity with Trauma Informed Care and Harm Reduction philosophies Ability to be non-judgmental, open, and welcoming to all Ability to work with co-workers using a collaborative team approach Self-starter and ability to follow through on tasks begun Understanding of systemic issues of poverty Working knowledge of Microsoft Word Sense of humor Good organizational, oral and written communication skills Ability to establish and maintain emotional boundaries Must have valid Washington State Driver s License and Insurance Transitions values diversity in its work force and is committed to Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action.
