Summary of Functions continued:

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer is also responsible for implementation of best practices for support functions, maintenance schedules and in-depth testing to ensure a highly available BI environment. This position requires a balanced contribution of analytical and problem-solving skills, creative ability, and communication skills. The Sr. BI Engineer will support the business by performing the following duties: designing and populating the data warehouse; examining, developing, and refining data warehouse operational metrics; establishing data governance policies and procedures and supporting other members of the team with data analysis, database administration, data mining, and report- and dashboard-creation tasks. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will also work closely with business executives and stakeholders in other departments in order to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support analytics solutions to deliver essential information to satisfy their information needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


* Act as technical lead for data warehouse architecture. design, and development roadmap, and BI software assessments and acquisitions. * Ensure consistent integration of data and implementation of BI solutions.


* Conceptualize, plan, and build the application architecture for BI tools and data warehouse. * Define and design the infrastructure for analytical reporting, KPIs, and other data specifications from various BI applications.


* Develop ETL/integration tools to populate the data warehouse from both internal and external data sources. * Design complex data models from business requirements for delivery to business operators. * Query, analyze, and profile data to ensure data quality and determine the ability to meet reporting analytic needs. * Develop data pipelines to disparate sources of data using a variety of means including APIs, XML, custom coding, etc.

(Requirements Gathering)

* Collaborate with other departments to understand their Core Business Processes. * Assist with requirements-gathering sessions with business and technical staff to determine technical requirements of business requests.

(Administration and Support)

* Manage user accounts and access permissions, software subscriptions and licenses of databases, data warehouse and analysis tools. * Develop scripts to automate administrative tasks and manage security. * Train and mentor other team members, users and management on data architecture, analysis and analytics concepts, use of BI tools, and database resources.. * Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data through analysis, coding, and writing clear documentation. * Monitor the performance of the data warehouse, databases, and BI tools; suggest and implement improvements to increase performance. * Perform database administration tasks such as the maintenance, monitoring, design, integrity and security of databases across the enterprise.

(Report Building)

* Develop complex SQL queries, procedures, functions, and views to support reporting and analytics requirements, as well as other data needs * Define, design and develop analytical reports, KPIs, and other data specifications from various BI applications. * Synthesize unstructured, disjointed information into meaningful, compelling narratives that facilitate and promote self-learning. * Expert in visualization techniques, dashboard design, and decision support tools; experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI, etc.


* Ensure control and protection of company assets. * Be available and willing to work any changes in hours deemed necessary for business levels. * Ensure compliance with: * the Kalispel Tribe of Indians-State of Washington Gaming Compact * All KTOI, KTEA and NQRC policies, procedures and internal controls * NIGC Regulations * Other relevant governance requirements (PCI DSS, HIPAA, etc.)

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is responsible for basic oversight of Junior team members. This position carries out basic supervisory responsibilities in accordance with NQRC policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and IT department SOPs. Responsibilities are limited and only include:

* Lead the BI team by prioritizing and managing projects and supervising solution delivery, and mentoring junior members of the team

Skills Required

* Working knowledge of data-reporting and business intelligence analysis tools required; specifically, preferred: * Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Integration Services * Tableau Software's data visualization tools * Power BI * Wherescape or other DWETL automation tools a plus

* Familiarity with hospitality- & financial-management systems preferred, specifically: * Sage 500 * UKG Group UltiPro HRMS * Agilysys Visual One lodging-management and club-management systems * Agilysys InfoGenesis point-of-sale system * RetailPro point-of-sale system * ResortSuite spa-management system

* Strong technical knowledge of data management systems, data warehousing methodology, data quality, data modelling, data governance, analytics, and predictive modeling. * Proven experience in BI/data warehousing planning and development. * Ability to develop and debug SQL Server Common Language Runtime packages using C# * Ability to develop and debug data-exchange automations using JSON, XML, and SSIS * Demonstrated proficiency building ETLs/ELTs (with SSIS, SSAS, and other tools). * Ability to understand and document business and administrative processes. * Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing (including writing reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals). * Ability to conduct one-on-one and formal classroom training to users and management. * Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. * Ability to reason from limited information, and identify and solve practical problems under high-pressure conditions. * Ability to take data from disparate sources across the enterprise and synthesize into meaningful business insights. * Ability to troubleshoot data integrity problems and provide technical support as needed. * Ability to deal with conflicts and tense situations in a professional manner


* At least 8 years of experience: * Working with Microsoft SQL Server, including design and administration of databases, creating SQL scripts, procedures, functions, etc. * Designing, building, and supporting data warehouses, including creating medium- to large-scale ETL's and modeling data and SSAS cubes. * Creating reports with tools such as Tableau, SSRS, Excel/Access, Power BI, etc.

* At least 3 years of experience: * Leading small teams in a cross-functional environment. * Working with and creating multidimensional expressions * Programming with C#, Java, Python or Visual Basic


* A Bachelor's degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or engineering, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree. Microsoft SQL Server Certification required (data-management-related MCSE or equivalent preferred).

Other Requirements

* Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including to analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases. * Ability to obtain and maintain a Tribal Gaming License and a Class III Gaming License. * Valid driver's license (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal Vehicle).

Available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
