Description Providence is calling a Chaplain Resident CPE
(Certified Pastoral Education, Variable Shift, 1.0 FTE, 40 hours
per week) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's
Hospital in Spokane, Washington. We are a community of caregivers

ACPE.edu. In this position you will have the following
responsibilities:
- Active Participation in the Clinical Pastoral Education program
through:
- Fulfilling all CPE program requirements, e.g. active
participant in all education activities including but not
restricted to orientation, verbatim and/or case reviews,
interpersonal relationship group (IPR), individual supervision
sessions, didactics, lectures and inter-professional educations
opportunities, and ongoing evaluation events (e.g. mid-term and
final evaluations)
- Developing and maintaining a learning contract with the ACPE
Supervisor in accordance with the Standards of ACPE, e.g. the
Objectives and Outcomes of ACPE Certified CPE
- Providing an average to 28 hours per week in direct ministry to
patient families and staff and 12 hours per week in structure
education activities
- Mentoring by Staff Chaplains and participation during day,
evening and night rotations with Staff Chaplains for education
opportunities these shifts provide
- Provide Ministry to Patients and Families:
- Offer and facilitates appropriate spiritual care and
sacramental ministry that remains respectful of their spiritual and
faith tradition
- Assess and addresses emotional, spiritual, and social needs of
patient as part of the multidisciplinary care team
- Provide supportive care to patients with acute spiritual needs,
particularly when they are in acute distress, terminally ill and/or
dying
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to
Medical Center protocols and HIPPA
- Maintain relationships on a professional basis and demonstrates
clear boundaries
- Provide Ministry to Staff:
- Maintain professional and interpersonal contact with staff as a
part of the multidisciplinary care team
- Assess emotional and spiritual needs of staff as relationship
to their professional work in the healthcare setting and/or related
to their personal lives impacting their work/life balance
- Continuously communicates with staff regarding patient needs
and issues, assessments and plans for care.
- May co/facilitate (or lead when appropriate) Critical Incident
Stress Defusing or Debriefings
- Demonstrate supportive care and neutrality in situation
involved in workplace conflict
- Maintain confidentiality of staff information shared and/or
heard
- Maintain relationships on a professional basis and demonstrates
clear boundaries
- Provide Communication to all by:
- Continuously documenting patient interventions, outcomes and
plans for care in the electronic Medical record per standardized
protocols of the Spiritual Care Department(s)
- Meet with Spiritual Care Department staff during regular
meetings such as morning/afternoon report, staff meetings, shift
changes, rounds as is appropriate to clinical assignments
- Attend and actively participates in patient and family care
conferences
- Make appropriate referral to other member of the
multidisciplinary care team
- Communicate healthcare information and special concerns
verbally to nursing and medical staff
- Build communications links between patients, families, staff
and physicians as is appropriate to the role of the chaplain
Required qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor's Degree theology, Ministry, Counseling, Divinity or
related field Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Master's Degree M.Div. or M.A. in Theology; or an equivalent
degree in other related disciplines), from an accredited college,
university or theological seminary or institute. Or ordination from
a recognized Jewish Seminary.
- One previous Unit of ACPE Certified CPE
- Ordination and/or endorsement by an established denominational
or church authority/or religious superior is preferred
- Evidence of good standing within a faith group preferred
- Ministry in pastoral care and/or healthcare settings About the
