ABOUT THE WALLA WALLA FOUNDRY
Walla Walla Foundry is one of the largest fine art fabricators in
the world. Originally founded in 1981 as a bronze casting foundry,
it now employs over 100 people and produces work in a range of
materials and through multiple processes. The foundry casts in
various alloys, including bronze, copper, brass, stainless steel
and silver. It also produces work in wood, resin, glass and wax. It
houses an advanced technological infrastructure encompassing a
digital design and modeling department, three high resolution five
axis CNC machines, 3D Printing, 3D scanning, and high precision
water jet cutting services.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Waterjet operator cuts material that is used in the
manufacturing of art and supporting structures, using CNC waterjet,
horizontal bandsaw, milling and/or lathe machine. Position is
onsite, at Walla Walla Foundry. This is a full-time
hourly/non-exempt position. This position works regular Foundry
hours, 7am-3:30 pm Monday through Friday. Regular overtime work (5
am start / 5:30 end) and Saturday work also required, as project
deadlines require.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Machine Operation
The primarily responsibility is to operate the CNC Waterjet,
including:
-Proper set -up and calibration
-Set tolerance levels and select cut speeds
-Prepare raw material prior to loading machine which could include
operating metal working machines and power tools, plasma cutter or
skill saw.
-Load and unload raw material to Waterjet and bandsaw utilizing
fork truck or other lifting techniques
Operate a band-saw on extruded material
Responsible for upkeep and ordering of material inventory in
advance of jobs (Material inventory is managed using a web-based
Oracle system)Actively troubleshoot and solve Waterjet problems,
research solutions, and ask for input when necessary
Focus on uptime, optimizing workflow and reducing delays in
production.
Create finished products maintaining high quality standards
Project organization / Approach to work
Provide accurate time estimates and expertly juggle multiple
priorities to complete work, with acute attention to production
benchmarks and deadlines.
Collaborate with project manager to devise a work plan to
efficiently complete project machining tasks
Clearly communicate with coworkers, supervisor clients and outside
vendors in a timely and professional manner.
Translate the requirements of detailed drawings and blueprints into
parts for production
Perform timely, detailed visual inspection of parts created and
make adjustments as needed
Closely collaborate with other Walla Walla Foundry departments
including 3D Print, Wax, Foundry, and Metal Shop to optimize
workflow
Provide accurate time estimates and expertly juggle multiple
priorities to complete work, with acute attention to production
benchmarks and deadlines.
Analyze and act on feedback from clients and Project Managers.
Digital/Computer duties (will train, as needed)
Complete required documentation of process and parts created in a
thorough and timely manner
Utilize proprietary system to label and track parts through the
machining process.
Fix digital files as needed
Utilize CAD and CAM software , specifically Rhino and SigmaNest
Communicate with others via email
Other
Approach work with a safety mindset; maintain work area and
equipment in a clean and orderly condition
Back-up other departments and areas as needed
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate, or equivalent. AA or technical school
machining certificate or other trade school a plus!
Minimum two years related manufacturing or industrial experience.
CNC Plasma, Laser, or Waterjet experience desired.
Strong foundation of construction fundamentals a plus, including
operating of power tools such as bandsaw, skill saw or plasma
cutter.
Must be comfortable with computers and basic programs, including
excel or google sheets, email. Basic knowledge of CAD, 3D space
desired
Experienced fork truck driver or ability to obtain certification
within one month on the job (Foundry will train)
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Mechanical aptitude and an interest in machinery required
Strong ability to work in the 3D envelope, with a good
understanding of volume, special manipulation, rotation, etc.
Passion and drive to stay up to date with the latest technology and
new techniques
Must be able to communicate effectively and work in a cooperative
manner to support a positive team environment
Must be able to flexibly move between and understand quality
control needs of differing projects as needed.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects
concurrently
Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English well enough
to accurately follow detailed written procedures and work
instructions as well as record and review data; clearly document
your work, and talk with fellow workers and managers.
Must thrive in fast-paced, dynamic team environment
Performs duties in a safe manner and follows all safety
procedures
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT
Frequent standing, walking, twisting, lifting and/or moving (up to
25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally. Environment is
industrial and can be dirty, dusty, noisy. PPE required and worn
frequently include ear protection, face masks/shields, glasses,
respirators, and sturdy work boots.
WAGES AND BENEFITS
Walla Walla Foundry benefits include a generous

and paid time off. Starting Wage: $18-25/hour, depending on
experience.
