Description:Follow prints and specifications to set up, edit and program CNC machines and/or manual machines, such as lathes and mills, to very close tolerances and to operate these machines for precision work using best and safe practices. Primary Job ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate CNC and/or manual production machines, primarily mills and lathesSetup and use, modify if necessary, required fixtures, cutting tools and work instructions to machine parts to specificationCalculate the appropriate feeds and speeds for cutting operations required to manufacture parts to printsIdentify and troubleshoot any problems with machined parts and assist other less skilled employees to resolve problemsEvaluate tool wear and establish tool change frequencyPerform fixture maintenance and tool replacement editsPerform all CNC machining processes including editing G&M codes and offsets (CNC only)Develop machining process instructions, tool sheets, and/or CNC machining programs as necessary and applicable to the specific machineProvide assistance to other departments, primarily Manufacturing Engineering, with the development of job quotes, machining processes, fixtures, and toolingCross train and mentor co-workers to share skills and knowledgeIdentify and develop product/process improvements and then lead implementation of these improvementsOperate machines using best and safe practicesMust produce parts within required tolerancesFunction as a team member and support other teamsWillingness to cross train on other machines as requiredFollow documented processesMaintain a high degree of qualityMaintain required paperworkHousekeeping/maintenance of work area and machineryIn order to achieve business objectives, work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be requiredAbide by company policiesEmployee may be required to present to small groups to conduct training, lead process improvement initiatives, and provide job status updatesOther duties as assignedRequirements:High School diploma or GEDMazatrol programming experience required - Mill and LatheMinimum of ten (10) years CNC or manual machining experience requiredMay substitute two (2) years experience for Associate of Arts degree in Machining TechnologyMay substitute one year experience for accredited trade or vocational machining certificateExperience in the set-up and operation of multiple types of machine shop equipmentDemonstrated ability, understanding, and experience to guide raw materials through all available processes, and end with a finished product that conforms to all specified requirementsUnderstand the machining properties of multiple types of materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and compositesFamiliar with operation and maintenance of machines and toolingAbility to machine parts to precise specificationsAbility to use the capability of the CNC control to develop CNC machining programs (CNC only)Ability to interpret mechanical drawings for proper applications of tolerances, fit, and process controlProper use of precision measuring instruments including calipers, machinist protractors, radius/thread gauges and micrometersIn-depth knowledge of Wagstaff product lines and processesDemonstrated ability to quote and bid unique productsDemonstrated ability to train and mentor other employeesMRP systems for accurate job reporting and assignment of jobsWorking EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery and equipment, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing some job duties, there is a risk of electrical shock and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment. Job duties may require work in high, precarious places, work in outside weather conditions, and exposure to extreme temperatures in some cases. The noise level in the working environment is often loud.
